Download Permissions

Hello everyone,

Just to let everyone know that we have changed permissions on the Downloads section of the PirateRevival website.

We have noticed that there are alot of users registering for the site and downloading large number of DJ mixes without getting involved in the active forums etc.

So to get users more involved with the site, we have introduced a "Promotions" scheme. When any new members join the site, their UserGroup will be set to "Registered User". Registered users will only be able to Download "1 PR DJ Mix" but will be able to use all other features with no problems.

When a Registered User has reached 20 posts on any of the forums, they will be Promoted to the "PR Regular" usergroup. Once a user has been promoted to PR Regular, the Downloads section will be made "fully" available for users to download any mix by our DJ's.

Any users found to be posting on the Forums that contain empty or irrevelant content in order to increase their post count, will not be able to take part in the promotion so please dont do it.

The "PR Regular" usergroup will be enabled so that users can join the group, but this will have to be authorised by a forum moderator first. New users can also gain instant "PR Regualr" status by donating to the site that goes towards the bandwidth costs.

Thanks for your time and we hope this promotion will help the site and the users on the site to make PirateRevival more of a community rather than just a website for downloads.

new d/l permission rules

hello all, i gotta say that i do agree with the new policy.... but i been listening 2 all ya'll for @least 3+yrs now (since jimbury hooked up with p.r. & told me about it) (didn't register as a mem. till '05 though). i've used the shout-box ton's of times but i'm not sure i've ever posted anything.
so assuming i need 20 post's, i'd like 2 apologize in advance for any sarcastic/funny 2 all but the orig. poster replies i may soon make. my goal is quality, but sh*t could get desperate & gotta make my quota!

Good point you got there mate and one that needs to be considered. But after looking through the stats, the site is getting used for people just to grab mixes from and nothing else.

The majority of new users we've had registering on the site do not take part in the site other than to download mixes, this restriction has been setup in order to get more users involved and grow the community on PR.

We'll review this through the week and maybe this restriction will have to change in some way if it deters users away.

Annie mentioned that maybe another idea would be to have one or two mixes available for registered users to download and then more will be available when posts reach a certain number. This will take a little more tinkering with the site but should be ok to setup.

Maybe this is not the right way to go for starters but I think it will enable us to determine what route is best.

Cheers again

Steebo

i reckon as shaz suggested that u need to post so many posts before u can download - it shouldnt deter people if anything it should get more people posting , same as on osa u need to have done 100 posts before u can request mp3 uploads n stuff and it seems to work for them

..Anything that get people more involved is a good idea. But I think there should be some mixes up for public download, just like annie suggested.

...And 20 posts?? Isn't that a bit much? Lot of "regulars" here with less then 20 posts that are involved in other ways then posting. Please consider that posting on a forum like this could be difficult if English isn't your native language? And there are a lot of non-native English speaking people out there that love oldskool. I did IP traces on the listeners connected to our server a few times and you would be surprised where people tune in from?

A "rule" like this excludes people like Jacy (for instance) from downloading his own mix! Something to consider, right?.?

? Big up for our new site-admin by the way

I see where you are coming from regarding non English speaking members.....but on several occasions i have seen some members making nasty comments on the shoutbox aimed at some dj's choice of music, several i have had to delete....When i have checked profiles of said people, they have never posted on the site, not contributed anything, but seem to have D/L between 15 and 20 mixes, and to me i don't think that is fair....maybe we need to find a common ground.....As for cazzo, he is a PR Dj so will have access anyway

hehehe cheers Roly : )

You do have a very good point and the reason people are downloading mixes is because they are great mixes from great DJ's.

If I wanted a download from a DJ that I heard last night on PR, I'd do what is necessary to get that mix.

The aim of this is to get people more involved in the forum and the website, just imagine how active these forums would be if all 2,500 members had a post every now n' then.

.. I agree on that Shazzz... I Didnt mean them...
I deleted some of those shouts too.. we can do without those kind of ppl. Just wanted to point out that i think 20 posts is too much and "involvement" shouldnt be measured by the number of posts only...

And for cazzo.. that was just an example. His reply on the "DanceM - No more to offer" post was worth 20 post anyway... lol

..and dont me wrong.. I DO think this is a good idea!
